70 Points for 70 Years: NV Basketball Boys Wins North Zone Title!
On Friday, 6 March, at the Singapore Basketball Centre, our B Division Boys team achieved a hard-fought victory in the North Zone Finals. Facing the defending champions, Catholic High School (CHS), our boys demonstrated remarkable resilience to bring the trophy back to NV for the first time since 2022.
The Path to 70 Points
The game was a true test of the team's composure. Entering the finals on a 10-game winning streak, our boys met with an immediate challenge as CHS opened with a 7-0 run. However, the team did not waver. They regrouped to outscore their opponents 22–19 by the end of the first quarter and maintained a disciplined lead of 42–32 at the halftime whistle.
The second half tested our boys' mental strength. As the defending champions applied heavy pressure to tie the game at 57–57 in the final five minutes, the atmosphere was tense. Encouraged by the roaring support of our school leaders, teachers, and students, our boys stayed calm. They executed two critical shots from beyond the perimeter and remained clinical at the free-throw line to widen the gap.
A Season of Significance
The final score of 70–64 was more than just a win; it was a poetic tribute to our school’s history.
-
The 70th Anniversary: In the very year we celebrate seven decades of our school, our boys scored exactly 70 points to clinch the title.
-
The First Since 2022: This victory marks our first North Zone Championship in four years, rewarding the immense dedication of our players, teachers, and coaching staff.
Gratitude to the NV Family
While the players did the work on the court, the victory belonged to the entire school. The energy from the stands provided the "extra gear" needed in the closing minutes of the game. We are incredibly grateful to the teachers and staff who have supported these student athletes throughout their journey.
Our boys will continue to train hard and strive for excellence at the upcoming Nationals!
